Migration and Development must be about identifying positive synergies between these two fields rather than using development policies as a tool of migration control.
Caritas Europa claims: Respect of migrants' social rights. Migration should be guided by a migrants centered approach. Enabling migrants to contribute to the development of their own communities should be a priority for the EU by increasing legal channels and genuine circular migration schemes.
Therefore, Caritas Europa is relentlessly advocating:
- The right to live in a territory, encompassing the right to stay, leave or return to a territory if needed
- The right to stay in one’s family and the right to family reunification
- The right to contribute to the development of the country of origin and of the country of destination
- The right to integrate in the country of destination
