Caritas Italy launches new centre for earthquake victims

Caritas is launching a new community centre in Italy tomorrow after a powerful earthquake devastated L’Aquila.

The centre, which has received over €31 million, will be launched to promote social, cultural and pastoral activities three years after the earthquake killed 309 people. 

The ‘Madonna, a source of peace’ centre will focus on social projects, reconstruction as well as first aid and emergency services.

Speakers at the launch will include archbishop of L’Aquila Giuseppe Molinari, president of Italian Caritas Bishop Giuseppe Merisi and the director of Italian Caritas, Don Francesco Soddu. 

Parish priests Father Renzo Pino D’Ascenzo and Don Manuel Cepeda will also take part and the director of Caritas Ambrosiana, Roberto Davanzano, will represent the regional delegation of Caritas Lombardy.

The event will take place at 4pm, in Fonteavignone, in the town of Rocca di Mezzo.
