Fires in Portugal:

Caritas allocates €200,000 for victims and launches national donation campaign

Update: 19 June 2017

Non-food items collection successfully completed
Caritas Portugal thanks the thousands of people who have offered much needed materials for the 150 families, who are currently homeless because of the fires. This collection is now closed since all needs have been covered.

Update: 18 June 2017

A deadly combination of high temperatures, strong winds and electric storms have triggered a devastating series of fires in Portugal. Over 60 people have perished in the area and many are injured.

Caritas Portugal reported yesterday that the organisation has allocated EUR 200,000 from own resources earmarked for inmediate needs of victims, and has opened a national donation account:

Conta Cáritas (Caixa Geral de Depósitos): 0001 200000 730
IBAN PT50 0035 0001 00200000 730 54

Inmediate actions
Some 150 families are homeless and in need of basic things such as summer sheets and blankets, towels and children’s clothing. Caritas Portuguesa is collecting these goods through its network of parish and diocesan Caritas.
