Why do people leave their home country? Where do refugees flee? What happens to refugees and migrants on their way? What is human trafficking? What is labour migration?

In many parts of the world, people are facing persecution, torture, wars, violence or natural disasters. Often their only only option to save their lives is to flee their homes and seek refuge abroad or in another region. These refugees or internally displaced persons (IDPs) have the right to seek protection abroad if their country of origin cannot provide protection.

Then again, some people leave their home country, not because of immediate danger, but to seek a better life and work opportunities or to reunite with family members who have already migrated. These people are called migrants.
