Better buildings to end energy poverty

Together with Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe and Friends of the Earth Europe; Caritas Europa signed the open statement “Better buildings today, for better lives tomorrow!”

Deeply concerned about the dilemma of heating or eating, which a growing number of people in vulnerable situations are currently facing, Caritas Europa co-signed the open statement “Better buildings today, for better lives tomorrow!” initiated by CAN Europe and Friends of the Earth Europe.

Within the framework of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) revision, Caritas Europa insists on the necessity to include strong social safeguards, accompanied by adequate funding to prioritise the renovation of the worst performing homes of low-income households. A deep renovation wave, combining insulation works with the installation of renewable heating systems of homes is one major solution to address the current energy price crisis and to make the switch to green energy, since no one should be left behind.
