In the weeks following the presidential elections on August 9, 2020, mass protests have taken place on the streets in cities across Belarus.

The protests are a reaction to the re-election of Alexander Lukashenko who has ruled the country for 26 years. The protestors, and opposition members  see the elections as fraudulent and demand that Lukashenko step down. The protests have led to an aggressive police response, and fatalities and serious injuries have been reported among the protestors.

Caritas Europa stands for peace, truth, and justice. We remain in solidarity with Caritas Belarus in this difficult time for their country.
